Ursulines! (And More Shaved Ice...)

For breakfast, I had a burrito made out of seaweed. Inside was fried chicken and rice. I don't really enjoy eating seaweed but it was actually really good!

I walked to school and stopped in the chapel to say my prayers. During class, we learned about different genres of movies. I learned many new vocabulary words!

For lunch, we ate at a Vietnamese place. The food was delicious! There was a rather confusing mural on the wall with parachuting nails. I'm still not quite sure what the message was supposed to be.

Then, we went to the same shaved ice place. We have now been there three days in a row! Today, we ordered red bean with matcha flavored ice. It was yummy, but not as good as the mango one.

On our way back to class, we stopped at a shoe store. I was impressed that they had many options in my size!

We then went to our afternoon class which is on the 13th floor so we have an incredible view of Kaohsiung.

During our afternoon class, we practiced the speeches we will give tomorrow at the opening ceremony. We also played a game of charades. Our group is incredibly competitive so the game was intense but so much fun. We also listened to some Chinese music, including this song:

中國話 (Zhong Gua Hua)

This was quite a throwback for me because my Chinese teacher in Zhuhai attempted to teach us the rap part of this song. We were never able to speak fast enough though.

After class, we all went out to buy drink. I ordered a glass of black lemon tea using the new vocabulary words I had learned the previous day!

Drinking Tea

While we were drinking our tea, I noticed an Ursuline sister walking by. I went up and introduced myself. She was from Slovenia and is currently visiting the sisters at Wenzao. I had not realized sisters still lived at the convent on the Wenzao campus. Sister gave me a tour of the convent and I met two other Ursulines there. Sister Fidelis is from China but came to Taiwan during the Communist Revolution. She has been involved at Wenzao practically since it was founded! I also met Sister Ellen Marie who is from England. They gave me details about Mass times and were incredibly friendly. Apparently, a Jesuit priest from California says Mass for them during the year. I'm excited to met him and get to know the sisters!

After talking with the sisters, I met up with Scotty, Lina, Kate, Katie, Brandon and Alisa. We walked around a neat park near my house.

I then walked home. On my way, I bought a corn dog at a food stand. While it didn't quite taste like an American corn dog, it was still delicious.

I ate dinner with my host mom. We had fried rice, chicken, eggs, clams and green beans. It was incredibly delicious! We watched some TV and talked about our days. Then we went to pick up my host brother from 补习班. On the way home, we talked about American cartoons. I am headed to bed early because we are climbing a mountain tomorrow. I can't wait to see the monkeys!
