Three Days of Class and the Science Museum

I did not have school on Monday or Tuesday because of National Taiwan Independence Day. On Monday, we went to a restaurant called Tasty for lunch. We ate an incredibly fancy six course meal. Here are a few pictures:

My Lunch

I spent the rest of Monday studying. On Tuesday, I went to a coffee shop near my house to meet up with Alisa, Scotty, and Lina to study. I spent the day writing my blog post, finishing draft one of my speech, and studying vocabulary.

Wednesday morning went smoothly with NSLI-Y class first and then my regular Chinese class. For lunch, we went to a Japanese place right across from school. We had never eaten there before and the food was really good! In the afternoon, I had tutoring. My tutors helped me correct my speech to make it grammatically correct.

After tutoring, I went to the first board game club meeting with Alisa, Scotty, Brandon, Katie, Tyler, and Kate. We ate Costco pizza and played some games.

Thursday morning was the same. For lunch, I had an egg burrito that was full of fried rice. It was delicious! In the afternoon, I met with one of our morning tutors, Hueying. She helped me go through my speech again and change the wording to be a bit more formal.

In the afternoon, I went to drama class. Scotty and I had both thought we had a quiz. On the quiz, we had to pick a role from a movie and persuade the director to let us act it. Then, we had to write out 15 things we would do to prepare to act that role. We next had to write 20 roles besides actor someone can have in a stage production. Finally, we had to write out the four main elements of a stage play. I studied super hard and was ready to do all of this in Chinese. However, we discovered the quiz actually isn’t happening until the middle of November! I'm still glad I prepared early because it provided a good challenge for me. In class, we performed short skits with our groups and watched a few videos.

On Thursday afternoon, I interviewed to join Serviam, a service club at Wenzao. It was certainly a nerve racking experience as interviews are. I was able to complete the entire interview in Chinese even though my answers were simplistic and I often had to ask for the question to be repeated.

On Friday morning, I had my first test in Chinese class! It went about as well as I was expecting. In the afternoon, we ordered fried rice to go. When we picked up our food, we noticed our bag was labeled 外国人, which translates to foreigners, which we found pretty funny.

In the afternoon, we went to the National Science and Technology Museum. It claims to be the largest science museum in all of Asia! On our way there, we stopped to check out a neat tea shop.

At the science museum, we went in an earthquake simulator, a space simulator, and made stamps. Each of these activities cost only one American dollar! The museum had a really neat exhibit on machines which I really enjoyed. I also liked the exhibit on the history of locks. I hope I can go back to the museum at some point during the next months!

Museum

After the museum, Alisa, Katie and I went to the shopping district a few blocks away. All the clothes there are inexpensive. I bought a quirky t-shirt for three dollars.

I went to dinner with Katie, Brandon, Scotty and Kripa. We ate at a Thai restaurant near my house. The food was a touch spicy but delicious!

I am excited for this upcoming weekend!
