Thor and a Trip to Yunlin County
On Saturday, I slept in and did homework. My host dad bought me a special pair of rubber sandals because I don’t have a good pair of shoes for when it rains here. In the afternoon, I went to see Thor with Brandon, Scotty, Kate and Katie. The tickets were super inexpensive and the movie was awesome! In the evening, I went to Mass at Wenzao. After that, I worked on homework.
On Sunday morning, I woke up very early to go to Yunlin County with my host family, Alisa, and her family. First, we went to a Taoist temple. This temple was built 300 years ago. It was very interesting to learn more about religion in Taiwan and visit this historical site.
The Temple
Next, we went to a museum about puppetry. When my host parents were kids, they watched puppet shows on TV. This museum was about these puppets!
Puppetry Museum
After the puppet museum, we met up with Katie and her host family by the ocean. We road on a cart pulled by a cow to the shore. There, we picked clams. Basically, you had to dig around by poles placed in the ground and try to find a clam. I was able to find twelve! My host dad, on the other hand, filled a massive bag!
Clam Picking
After going clam picking, we drove home and ate dinner. Then my host dad sewed up rips on my backpack, a pair of pants, and a skirt. I was so impressed! Right now, I am working to finish up my homework so I can get a decent night’s sleep in preparation for the week ahead!
